Dr. Patrick Ryan is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine physician dedicated to helping athletes and active individuals return to the sports and activities they love. His passion for musculoskeletal medicine began during his time as a student athletic trainer at the University of Notre Dame, where he gained firsthand exposure to caring for athletes and building the meaningful relationships that continue to define his approach to medicine today.

A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Ryan earned his medical degree from UT Health San Antonio’s Long School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Baylor Scott & White Health before pursuing advanced fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Reconstruction at the University of Missouri.

Dr. Ryan specializes in sports medicine and the treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries involving the hip, knee, shoulder and elbow. He cares for athletes of all ages and skill levels, from youth and recreational athletes to elite athletes, providing both non-surgical and surgical treatment options tailored to each patient’s goals and lifestyle.

His patient care philosophy is straightforward: the patient comes first. Dr. Ryan believes that informed patients make the best decisions for their health. He emphasizes education, open communication and shared decision-making to develop individualized treatment plans that align with each patient’s needs and objectives.

With extensive experience serving as a team physician for collegiate, professional and high school athletic programs, Dr. Ryan understands the unique demands athletes face. During his time at the University of Missouri (Mizzou), he served as a team physician for the women’s soccer, football, basketball and baseball programs, providing comprehensive medical care to student-athletes across multiple sports. He has also provided medical coverage for professional organizations such as the St. Louis Blues and numerous high school athletic programs. In North Texas, Dr. Ryan assists with the care of the Fort Worth Vaqueros soccer club and local schools, including Coppell and Fort Worth Christian.

Dr. Ryan has a strong interest in advancing orthopedic sports medicine through research and innovation. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, presented nationally on sports medicine topics and remains actively involved in orthopedic research, particularly in areas related to athletic injury prevention, cartilage restoration, shoulder and knee injuries, and return-to-sport outcomes.

A lifelong North Texan, Dr. Ryan is proud to care for patients in the community he calls home. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Taylor, and their three children, following Notre Dame athletics, staying active and taking walks with the family dog, Lou.
