Live from ‪#AOFAS‬-High incidence of syndesmosis found among intercollegiate football players.

Adam Kouyoumjian's commentary:

The syndesmosis comprises 4 ankle ligaments. Injuries to the syndesmosis account for 16% of all ankle sprains. It is commonly referred to as a high ankle sprain and is associated with a worse prognosis than nonsyndesmotic ankle injuries. Patients often experience chronic ankle stiffness and a longer time away from sports. Early recognition and treatment improves prognosis. Very good recent study published in American Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. May, 2012 http://jbjs.org/article.aspx?articleid=1148500
