OrthoTexas would like to introduce our newest physician Dr. Robert Russell,
M.D. to our Plano and Frisco clinics.
Robert Russell, M.D., is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip and
knee replacement surgery, including the use of the direct anterior approach
for total hip replacement. He also treats a wide array of orthopedic conditions
of the hip and knee including revision surgery for failed or problematic
replacements, infections after replacements, fractures, sport-related
injuries, arthroscopic surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Russell, is a native Texan who grew up in Dallas, graduated from Plano
West Senior High. Dr. Russell attended undergraduate at Cornell University
in Ithaca, New York where he played on the Division I men’s soccer
team and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in
engineering. He then went on to complete his medical degree at Baylor
College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he was elected a member of
the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society.
Dr. Russell completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Hospital
in Dallas. During his time at UT Southwestern, Dr. Russell published multiple
peer-reviewed articles in medical journals and gave presentations at national
and international conferences. He elected to pursue an additional year
of sub-specialty training specific to hip and knee reconstruction at the
OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
At OrthoCarolina, Dr. Russell was able to learn the muscle-sparing, direct
anterior approach to total hip arthroplasty from the nation’s experts
in this surgery. He trained in minimally invasive techniques in joint
replacement. He also focused on complex total hip and total knee replacements
including performing these surgeries in patients with large deformities,
bone loss, infections, fractures near implants, and failed prior joint
