Dr. Sarang Desai, a native of Texas, is a fellowship-trained board-certified
orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in the non-operative and operative
treatment of foot and ankle injuries and conditions. These conditions
include: sports injuries, fractures, joint replacement, dislocations,
arthritis, sprains, strains, and complex deformities of the foot and ankle.
He treats patients ranging from young children to adults.
Dr. Desai was an All-American athlete at University of Texas, where he
received his undergraduate degree. Given his athletic background he is
experienced in sports related injuries to the foot and ankle and believes
in a rapid safe return to athletic activities. Dr. Desai has a passion
for treating all types of athletes, from your weekend warrior to elite
athletes all over North Texas.
Dr. Desai received his medical degree from the University of North Texas
Health Science Center in Fort Worth and went on to complete orthopaedic
surgery residency at St. James Hospital in Chicago. Following residency,
Dr. Desai was selected for one of only two coveted AO foot and ankle fellowships
in the country at Michigan International Foot and Ankle Center in Detroit.
AO is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement
of patient care in orthopedic surgery.
After, his outstanding work during his fellowship in complex foot and ankle
surgery reconstruction, he was subsequently appointed to the prestigious
AO North America faculty. In this role, he works to improve the care of
patients with musculoskeletal injuries and their sequelae from all over
North America, through education and research in the principles, practice,
and results of treatment.
Dr. Desai is the official team physician for the Dallas Sidekicks professional
indoor soccer team since 2012. Additionally, Dr. Desai serves as the foot
and ankle consultant for the Texas Legends NBA D-League professional basketball
team, the Allen Americans professional hockey team, several local high
schools, the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy, and Cirque de Soleil.
Dr. Desai founded and served as medical director of multiple hospital based
foot and ankle programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth region, some of these
programs are the first of their kind in North Texas. He created and became
involved in these programs to provide excellence in foot and ankle care
for patients in North Texas.
Dr. Desai research studies on foot and ankle cartilage restoration and
reconstructive surgical techniques are regularly published in prominent
medical journals. He has also been featured on, FootCareMD: the educational
outreach of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. Additionally,
Dr. Desai has served on the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society
Post-Graduate, the Education Committee, and has participated as a reviewer
for the Journal of Surgical Orthopaedic Advances.
Dr. Desai believes strongly in both physician and patient education. He
lectures nationally and internationally, instructing other surgeons and
medical professionals on successful surgical treatment of traumatic injuries
to the foot and ankle, ankle arthroscopy, and cartilage restoration techniques.
He has provided lectures for the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society
resident lecture series, and regularly writes educational articles for
patients and medical providers on footEducation.com
Dr. Desai has been honored by his peers, his patients, and his community
with multiple awards recognizing his professional excellence. These includes
being selected as a Leading Physician of the World, a Top Orthopaedic
Surgeon by The International Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, D Magazine:
Best Doctors 2015-2017, and Texas Monthly: Super Doctors Rising Star 2015-2017.
In his free time Dr. Desai enjoys staying active by exercising regularly,
participating in triathlons- even completing an Ironman 70.3 in Austin,
and doing outdoor activities with his family. Dr. Desai lives in Frisco
with his wife and his 2 sons.
