OrthoTexas would like to introduce our newest physician, Dr. John Arvesen.
Dr. Arvesen will be practicing in our Carrollton location.

Dr. Arvesen, born and raised in Dallas, Texas, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon at OrthoTexas specializing in treating injuries to the knee, shoulder, and elbow. Dr. Arvesen is committed to providing the highest level of care to his patients and views orthopedic surgery as his calling in life to help people return to healthy, active lifestyles.

Earning his undergraduate degree from Baylor University, Dr. Arvesen graduated magna cum laude and played Division I Men’s Tennis, winning two Big XII conference and tournament championships. Dr. Arvesen then went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where he was given the John P. McGovern Oslerian Medicine Award for demonstrating compassionate, personalized patient care. He then completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Saint Louis University, training at two Level One Trauma centers and treating Division I athletes, including the Billiken’s Men’s Basketball team. Dr. Arvesen completed his fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Reconstruction at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas. He cared for a variety of athletes at all levels, including the Colorado Rockies (MLB), the Greenville Drive (Red Sox Minor League Affiliate), Boiling Springs High School Football, and the South Carolina High School State Wrestling Championships.

In addition to his medical training, Dr. Arvesen has published multiple articles on a variety of topics and is actively involved with research including UCL injuries in Major League Baseball players, shoulder trauma, improving post-operative pain management, lower extremity orthopedic trauma, and outcomes following hip arthroscopy surgery.

Dr. Arvesen is the team physician for Newman Smith High School in Carrollton. He lives in North Dallas with his wife, son, and daughter. He is active in the local church and volunteers with Young Life Ministries. In his free time, he enjoys playing USTA tennis, traveling, playing guitar, and spending time with his family.
